ITH – torque & hydraulic tools
Torque tools, bolt tensioning cylinders and fasteners from ITH, for bolted joints where the tightening has to be exact and verifiable.
A bolted joint holds for as long as it is tightened to the right value. Too loose or too tight and the joint becomes unreliable, and in heavy structures that only shows when something breaks. ITH Bolting Technology builds the tools that make tightening predictable: torque tools that turn to a preset value, and bolt tensioning cylinders that pre-tension the bolt axially, without friction and without torsion. Pegol supplies the full range, from individual tools to systems where every tightening is recorded. The tools are made in ITH's own factory in Meschede, Germany, from certified and traceable input material.
The range covers torque tools, nut runners, bolt tensioning cylinders, fasteners, pumps and hoses, along with training and rental tools.
Which tool suits depends on the joint: its dimension, how accessible it is and what has to be documented. Tell us what yours looks like and we will go through the options together with ITH.
Product range
Torque tools
ITH's hydraulic and electric torque tools tighten the joint to a preset value. The types differ mainly in how they reach it: CX and DKS are radially compact for confined spaces, D-Flex covers various across-flats widths with reduced head radii, and DRS manages with a single hose and has a reaction arm that positions through 360 degrees.
- Preset torque value
- Types CX, D-Flex, DRS and DKS
Hydraulic tools
Beyond the torque tools, the range covers nut runners for tightening and loosening. They come battery-powered (ADS 4), electric (EDS), pneumatic (PDS) and manual (MDS). ITH states final value accuracy of ±4 per cent for the battery-powered and electric models, and the manual version carries a shear pin that prevents overload.
- Battery, electric, pneumatic or manual
- ±4 per cent final value for ADS 4 and EDS
- Shear-pin overload protection on the manual MDS
Bolt tensioning cylinders
A bolt tensioning cylinder pre-tensions the bolt by stretching it axially rather than turning it. The tightening becomes friction-free and torsion-free, which distributes load more evenly across the joint. Type SES covers M16 to M110 as standard and is designed for bolt quality 8.8. Type MS is slim for radially confined positions, ES is short for axially confined ones and carries break load protection and a cycle counter, and ESH has a hollow piston for long thread projections.
- Friction-free and torsion-free tensioning
- SES: M16 to M110 as standard
- Types ES, MS, SES, ESH and ESX
Fasteners
Bolts, nuts and washers from ITH in various designs, built to give the right residual tension in the joint. The fastener is part of the same system as the tool, not a detail chosen last.
- Bolts, nuts and washers
- Designed for correct residual tension
Pumps & hoses
Hydraulic hoses and pumps for both tensioning and turning tools. The Hydro-MAX, Micro-MAX and Eco-MAX series are electrically driven, with Micro-MAX the light and compact option for tight spaces and Eco-MAX intended for construction sites. Aero-MAX runs on compressed air for positions where electricity is not an option.
- Electric Hydro-MAX, Micro-MAX and Eco-MAX
- Pneumatic Aero-MAX
ITH training & certification
Training and certification programmes via ITH, giving users the knowledge required to operate and maintain the tools correctly. A tool handled wrongly does not deliver the torque it is set to.
- Skills development and certification
- Safe and correct use
- In-depth product knowledge
ITH tool rental
For temporary projects and one-off applications, torque tools and accessories can be rented through ITH as an alternative to purchase.

The tool is chosen from the dimension of the joint, how accessible it is and whether the tightening has to be documented, not from a single figure in the table. The type designations are ITH's own. Complete torque and force ranges per type are something we work out together with ITH once the application is known.
Industries where this product is used
Aftermarket for this product
ITH runs training and certification programmes that give users the competence to operate and maintain the tools, and they are arranged through Pegol. For temporary projects, rental tools are available as an alternative to purchase. The tightening itself can also be followed up: pressure, preload and torque are recorded and evaluated in real time via the ITH Cloud, which means a joint can be reviewed long after it was assembled.
Read more about our aftermarketFrequently asked questions
What is a torque tool?
A torque tool is used to make sure a bolt and nut are tightened to an exact torque.
Why does the right tightening torque matter?
To avoid the bolt and nut being left too loose or pulled too tight. Either makes the bolted joint unreliable. ITH's tools can be preset to the torque required.
What is the difference between a hydraulic and a battery-powered torque tool?
Hydraulic torque tools generate force by passing pressurised hydraulic fluid through a pump, which suits very high torques in particular. Battery-powered torque tools use an electric motor and are known for their precision, speed and ease of use.
What is the difference between tightening by torque and stretching the bolt?
With torque tightening the nut is turned, and part of the force is lost to friction in the threads and bearing surfaces. A bolt tensioning cylinder instead pulls the bolt axially, without friction and without torsion, which distributes load more evenly across the joint.
Can the tightening of a joint be documented?
Yes. With ITH's Smart Tools, pressure, preload and torque are recorded and evaluated in real time via the ITH Cloud, so the values remain available for follow-up.
