Slewing bearings for ship cranes and platforms, and torque tools for marine engines and offshore, with inspection and service on site.

Industry needs

At sea and offshore, the components sit where they are hardest to replace. A ship crane or a loading platform has to slew under load in salt water and weather, and a joint in a marine engine or on a platform has to be tightened and checked with what is available on board. That calls for tools that cover the whole span of bolt sizes, and for a supplier who can come out to the vessel or the platform when something needs inspecting. Both thyssenkrupp Rothe Erde and ITH work that way.

What these applications have in common is that they are expensive to reach. That is why inspection and service on site weigh as much as the delivery itself, for the slewing bearing as much as for the joints.

This page grows with more applications during the autumn. Tell us which vessel, crane or installation it concerns, and we will take it from there together with Rothe Erde or ITH.

Applications

Slewing bearings in ship cranes and platforms

In marine technology and offshore, slewing bearings are used in ship cranes, loading platforms and oil platforms. Pegol supplies them from thyssenkrupp Rothe Erde, from standard bearings to specially designed bearings with large outer diameters, with inspection and service of bearings already in operation.

Bolted joints in marine engines and offshore installations

ITH's hydraulic torque wrenches and bolt tensioning cylinders are used in the assembly of marine engines, in the maintenance of platforms and in marine technology, for bolt sizes from M20 to M100. ITH offers technical advice and, when needed, inspection and service work on site, worldwide.

Frequently asked questions

Where in the marine environment are slewing bearings used?

In ship cranes, loading platforms and oil platforms, where the structure has to rotate and slew under high load. The bearings come from thyssenkrupp Rothe Erde.

Which bolt sizes do ITH's tools cover for ships and offshore?

From M20 to M100, with hydraulic torque wrenches and bolt tensioning cylinders adapted for the assembly of marine engines, the maintenance of platforms and marine technology.

Can you inspect and service on board or on the platform?

Yes. ITH offers inspection and service work on site worldwide, and through thyssenkrupp Rothe Erde we inspect and service slewing bearings already in operation, with documented maintenance and spare parts.
