We stick to what can be evidenced. Most of the sustainability work in this value chain happens at the manufacturers, and so it is their commitments and certificates we report, not our own wording about them.

Service life is the first sustainability question

The calculation that comes before anything else we can say about sustainability.

A component that lasts twice as long halves the material consumed over time. It is a simple calculation, and it comes before anything else we can say about sustainability. A slewing bearing that does not need replacing, a tool that survives more strokes, a profile with the right tolerance that does not wear out early: that is where the effect sits.

The same holds in the other direction. The products we supply largely go into sectors whose purpose is to reduce emissions, such as wind power and railway.

What the suppliers have done

Sustainability work largely happens in production, that is, at the manufacturers. These are commitments they have published themselves, not wording we have added.

Schwerter Profile has used 100 per cent green electricity since 1 January 2024 and is emissions-free in Scope 2, with the goal of eliminating carbon dioxide emissions entirely by 2035.
The steel Schwerter Profile purchases consists of almost 100 per cent metal scrap, and profiles can be supplied as Green Steel on request.
voestalpine's greentec steel programme aims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in steel production.
Odlewnie Polskie is EPD-certified and certified to ISO 14001:2015.

European sourcing

The suppliers are in Germany, Austria and Poland. Shorter transport distances are part of it, but the more important part is visibility: the plants can be visited, the certificates examined and questions asked about how the material was produced. That is harder at greater distances.

Our own environmental policy

We choose products and logistics solutions with care for the environment. By optimising stockholding, transport choices and consolidated shipping we reduce our environmental impact. Operations are governed by applicable environmental laws and regulations, and we are certified to ISO 14001:2015.

Long-term ownership

Pegol is part of Ernströmgruppen, a private industrial conglomerate that develops B2B companies with no exit agenda. The ownership model affects how far ahead decisions are made, which in practice shows in which supplier relationships are allowed to take time.
